Once a year the unique Paddle Steamer P.S. Murray Princess glides along the Murray River on a cruise from Mannum to Renmark.
This once a year cruise lasts for 7 special nights allowing you lots of time to sit back and enjoy the unique cliffs and wetlands area between Mannum and Renmark whilst meeting new friends along the cruise. This cruise is ideal for those who have already done on of the standard 7 night cruises or for those wishing to experience an area which is only cruised very rarely. During this 7 night Murray River cruise you will cover 420kms of the Murray River and pass through five locks systems. The cruise will follow in the wake of the historic River Boat community that plied the same waters back in the 19th Century. Were sure you will have an amazing journey along the river learning the history of the river, seeing the cliffs and wildlife that call the Murray River home plus meet new and interesting friends en route which all result in long lasting memories of a fantastic holiday for many years to come.

The Paddle Steamer Murray Princess departs Mannum on Friday 1 December 2017 at 4.30pm. For those taking the complimentary coach from the Adelaide CBD your departure time will be 2.00pm from the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel at 125 North Terrace, Adelaide. For those who are self driving, complimentary car parking is available at Mannum from 2.30pm.

The Paddle Steamer arrives into Renmark at 9.30am on 8 December. For those returning to Adelaide via the complimentary coach, you will be dropped back at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel at 2.30pm and the same coach will do a second drop off at the Adelaide Airport at 2.45pm. For those who have self driven, a coach transfer back to Mannum from Renmark at the conclusion of the cruise on 8 December will arrive back into Mannum at 1.00pm.

Friday

Mid-afternoon your boat departs historic Mannum, birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication, and cruises upriver while you enjoy pre-dinner drinks (own expense) and a Welcome Dinner. As the Paddle Steamer cruises the Murray River under floodlight to your overnight mooring at River View Lodge which is in the uniquely named Piggy Flat area where you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species. The cruise boats on-board entertainer provides music for the night owls.

Saturday

Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific bird life includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve. This is one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about aboriginal history in the area. This afternoon your Paddle Steamer will moor at Sunnydale and it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as the crew recreate a typical Australian woolshed history. Later your group will visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour in a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner where you may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls (additional cost).

Sunday

Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver through the first of five locks your cruise boat will encounter on this Murray River cruise up to Renmark. This afternoon, take in the tranquility as the landscape slides by and enjoy a special presentation and tasting's of the bounty of food and wine produced in the Riverland region. This evening, the Paddle Steamer will dock at Morgan where you can join the Captain for pre-dinner drinks (own expense) and after dinner, enjoy the on-board entertainment.

Monday

During the 1800’s, Morgan was the home port of hundreds of paddle steamers which carried cargo and passengers up the Murray-Darling River system. This morning passengers will disembark to see this historic town. Delight in a fascinating guided walk of the township and Morgan’s three historical museums. Then mid morning its time to reboard the cruise boat from Morgan and keep cruising, after lunch enjoy a friendly game of Bingo. This afternoon the Paddle Steamer will negotiate the 2nd lock of the passage before mooring at an old distillery and after dinner, enjoy being entertained by your talented crew.

Tuesday

After breakfast its time to cruise upriver to the picturesque river town of Waikerie, which was established in 1894 when its first settlers arrived by paddle wheeler. Enjoy free time in the township before re-joining the vessel as the Paddle Steamer continues its voyage to historic Overland Corner for your overnight anchorage. Overland Corner was a convenient watering place and camp site for the overlanders and drovers operating between New South Wales and the colony based in Adelaide in the early years of the 1800s. The Overland Corner Hotel has been restored by the National Trust of South Australia and has so many tales to tell.

Wednesday

This morning passengers will cruise towards Kingston-on-Murray where the vessel will navigate the 3rd lock on her journey. Visit the Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum, the home of Australia’s ‘Big Thumper’ Humphrey Pump. The world’s only working Humphrey Pump has been caringly restored and is demonstrated along with steam and diesel locomotives, steam traction or ploughing engines, oil engines, tractors and machinery from the early development era of the Irrigation Areas. In the afternoon, cruise upriver to the historic township of Loxton for your overnight mooring. Tonight, be treated to a special excursion to the Christmas Loxton Lights Festival. See Loxton shine with thousands of twinkling fairy lights, bright colourful banners and large clusters of residential streets decorated with over 350 illuminated Christmas scenes, paintings and colored light displays. Wander the shopping precinct and soak up the atmosphere of the festive season.

Thursday

Today your cruise will take you to the township of Loxton. Step back in time at The Village, which tells the stories of the region’s early settlers and their families, displayed in over 45 recreated buildings and exhibits on the banks of the mighty Murray River. After lunch, the PS Murray Princess will navigate Lock 4 and the Kamikaze Flats before mooring at the picturesque area of Rumpagunya Creek for this evening’s celebrations. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a tender boat ride or inspect the wheelhouse with the Captain. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish.

Friday

After breakfast, your Murray River cruise boat will navigate through the 5th lock and pass under the Paringa Bridge before we reach Renmark where your cruise finishes and new friends and crew reluctantly say farewell.
