Saturday (Supper)

Departing from Berri in the heart of the Murraylands, the Captain and crew of the luxurious P.S. Proud Mary look forward to welcoming you aboard. Upon boarding at 7.15pm you will be shown to your superb river view accommodation with time to settle in and enjoy a drink at the bar before a delicious supper is served at 8.30pm. You would have noticed that Berri features a gorgeous riverfront with plenty of area for picnics or playing sport and also includes floating wharf platforms, lookouts, historic monuments and an indigenous bridge mural. Berri was originally part of Cobdogla Station and a mooring place for paddle steamers. The town of Berri takes its name from the Aboriginal word ‘berybery’ meaning ‘bend in the river’ and was proclaimed in 1911.

As you cruise, Expedition’s powerful floodlights illuminate the shore. This is an excellent opportunity to see the River environment in a different perspective and may allow you to view of some of the nocturnal wildlife, especially birds such as night herons, owls and coots. Later, P.S. Proud Mary ties up for a night of peace and tranquility in the Australian bush on the banks for the Murray River.

Sunday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Pass through Lock 4 this morning. Today you will be taking in the wonder of the higher reaches of South Australia’s Murray River. Stopping in Loxton stroll around this vibrant riverland town and take a look at the Loxton Historical Village to reminisce of days gone by. This afternoon your Murray River cruises boat will head towards Moorook, which is one of the series of village, and towns that encircle a group of lakes and lagoons that make up the Riverland region. Observe tall river gums and river box rise from the tangle of lignum fringing in the lagoon while enjoying Lunch. Reed beds protect the nursery areas of many water birds and provide homes for insects, frogs and small fish upon which egrets and herons prey. A virtual nature trail wanders along the edge of the waterways. Dinner will be served tonight as you moor overnight at Moorook.

Monday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Departing Moorok cruise downstream towards Kingston on Murray. Here you will meet a coach which will take you on a tour of Banrock Station Winery and Wetlands. Banrock Station has committed itself to working towards improving the surrounding area. By recreating the natural drying and flooding cycle of the wetland, it is once more full of life. After a relaxing walk around this wonderful area, reboard the waiting coach and head back to your cruise boat. This afternoon you can cruise while enjoying more wonderful food, passing through Lock 3 and past the famous Overland Corner Hotel onto Waikerie. This evening is “Australiana Night” featuring typical Australian dishes. Moor overnight at Waikerie.

Tuesday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Enjoy another hearty breakfast aboard your Murray River cruises boat but once that's finished its time to board a coach for a guided tour of the township of Waikerie and the local area including a visit to the wonderful Havenhand Chocolate’s and the Orange Tree and maybe sample some of their local produce. Here they boast more sunshine hours yearly than the famed Queensland Gold Coast! The name Waikerie is said to mean ‘many wings’, after the giant swift moth ‘weikari’, the name given by original indigenous community. It’s an appropriate name, considering the teeming birds of the lagoons and wetlands that edge the river. Waikerie was established in 1894 when its first settlers arrived by paddle steamer. Reboard your cruise boat head up the Murray River to the overnight mooring place for a spectacular riverside barbeque and entertainment night.

Wednesday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Cruise enjoying a buffet breakfast on board before arriving mid-morning in the historic town of Morgan. In its heyday, Morgan was one of the busiest South Australian Murray River ports. The town is located on the Great Elbow, North-West Bend on the River Murray. Its time again to board a coach for a visit to the many heritage sights of this once booming riverside town. Most of the historic buildings, including the customs house and courthouse, are located on Railway Terrace. After ample time of looking around town its time to rejoin your cruise boat and head downstream through Lock 1 - the River Murray is dammed by 13 locks built for the early riverboat trade. Water cascades over the lock creating an excellent feeding place for bird life including Pelicans and dozens of species of water birds. After passing through Lock 1 you will arrive at your overnight mooring stop, Blanchetown.

Thursday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Depart Blanchetown this morning and continue downstream while enjoying a hearty breakfast, past Portee Station and Moorundie the site of the first white township in the area in 1841. Stopping at Swan Reach for a stroll around this interesting town before continuing downstream arriving at Big Bend. Marvel at the staggering cliff formations of this Big Bend area well know on all cruise routes as the best place to get amazing photos of the Murray River Cliffs from the water. This evening there is a traditional Australian barbecue on shore followed by live Aussie entertainment.

Friday (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Depart early this morning and cruise downstream while enjoying a hearty breakfast. Mid-morning pull in to Ngaut Ngaut Conservation Park, the site of an archaeological dig dated back over 8000 years. Enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the boats on board chefs as you cruise before a mid afternoon arrival at Teal Flat. A highlight of your journey is a guided cruise led by an ecologist aboard a small boat through the lagoons and inlets of this sanctuary. This evening join the Captain and crew for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a formal Captain’s Dinner.

Saturday (breakfast, lunch)

Enjoy breakfast as your Murray River cruises boat heads downstream, before a mid-morning arrival in picturesque Mannum. Here board the waiting coach for a tour to the Reedy Creek reserve and Mannum Township. Your guide will provide you with information to enable you to identify significant rock formations and the abundant native vegetation and bird life as well as information on the local history. Lunch is a superb buffet with fresh local produce including cold meats, seafood and salads as the boat cruises downstream. This afternoon there will be more spectacular scenery before disembarking in Murray Bridge at approximately 4.15 pm.
